Good Pub Guide Recommended

Tucked-away 300-year-old mill with cosy rambling bar, five real ales and inventive bar food; comfortable bedrooms This 17th-c restored mill comes as a nice surprise – tucked away as it is at the bottom of a peaceful wooded valley. There's a good, bustling atmosphere and a happy mix of both locals and visitors who are here to enjoy the first-class food and well equipped, individually decorated bedrooms. The rambling, friendly bar has cosy side areas with banquettes heaped with cushions and rugs, there are well spaced nice old tables and chairs, and the candles in elegant iron holders give a feeling of real intimacy; also, old hunting prints, country landscapes and so forth, and a couple of big log fires. Little Valley Hebdens Wheat and Withens IPA, Moorhouses Premier Bitter and a couple of guest beers on handpump and 16 wines by the glass from a wide list. There's also an upstairs restaurant; piped music and TV. Outside on the attractive heated terrace, there are plenty of seats and tables, and the building is prettily floodlit at night.

Good Pub Guide Food

Highly thought-of and interesting, the food might include sandwiches, potted ham hock and foie gras with piccalilli, slow-cooked rabbit with confit onions and a coddled duck egg, beetroot and red wine risotto with apple and blue cheese salad, beer-battered haddock with dripping chips, chorizo-stuffed free-range pork belly with smoked paprika cream, and braised wild bass with crispy potato and cauliflower, pickled fennel, cumin and a hazelnut and peppercorn sauce.

Bar food times: 12 - 2, 6 - 9.30; 12 - 7.30 Sun

Stayed here one night early December on business; Room 3 was superb, ground floor, comfy large double bed, flat TV, great large and clean modern bathroom. All staff here extremely friendly, good locals place with many diners. Food good, highish price, but value for me. Large choice, large portions! Choice of 4 real ales on hand pump, all excellent.
Tried to book for Christmas on evidence of my stay (it was unsurprisingly fully booked!) - it was that good. I am a regular stayer at GPG pubs, and this now rates in my Top 5 now.
