Visited this pub for the first time on Easter Sunday, 24th April 2011. Had booked a table for 2, ten days in advance but on arrival they did not have the booking registered. Allocated a table for 4 in the centre of the carvery dining room and when asked if we could move to a side table set for 2, were informed it was booked. Carvery was OK, pork roast was lovely but beef could have been a bit more tender. The large selection of vegetables could have been hotter and were on the undercooked side. Did not appreciate that you had to pay for the carvery before going in to the dining area which leaves you wondering what would happen if you had a complaint. Half way through our meal a couple came in for the table for 2 but it was not suitable, so they were moved (without question) to a table for eight! We could have sat there after all. It was our first and last visit.

Excellent stay overnight in this warm, friendly, welcoming pub. Food was good and the whole bill was good value. Beer was well kept and they had a good variety. Highly recommended

Truly excellent pub. I agree with the review 100%. It's worth noting that they have the foresight to have a few sandwiches and pies in the fridge by the bar so if you get delayed whilst out walking you can still get a bite to eat outside the main serving hours. It's a shame more pubs don't offer this level of service rather than the usual "we stop serving at 2pm" nonsense.
