Good Pub Guide Recommended

Fascinating building, big attractive waterside garden, Fullers beers Inside this largely 18th-c four-storey watermill you'll see the great internal waterwheel turning and hear the gentle rush of the stream running below your feet. Big windows throughout make the most of the charming setting above the prettily banked River Wey. The building has been sensitively converted, with a series of rambling linked bar areas on the spacious ground floor, and a restaurant upstairs, that change in mood from one part to the next. You'll find brown leather armchairs and antique engravings by a longcase clock, neat modern tables and dining chairs on dark woodstrip flooring, big country tables on broad ceramic tiles, iron pillars and stripped masonry, and a log fire in a huge inglenook. They have four Fullers beers on handpump, and a good range of wines by the glass; piped music, board games. Outside there are plenty of picnic-sets dotted around by the water, with its lovely millpond, swans and weeping willows, and the entire scene is well floodlit at night.

The setting for this pub does, in no way whatsoever, justify its favourable rating in the good pub. Simply, it is awful. The food is evidently 3663 (or seems suspiciously so), the beer is only Fullers. Compare this to somewhere like the Hop Blossom in Farnham, and it cannot compete. That, too, is a Fullers pub, but the food there is acceptable, the atmosphere more like a real pub than a kiddie's diner. The Mill does not deserve any listing at all in the Good Pub Guide, perhaps better suited to the 'Good Pub For Chavs' guide.

Took my family here for a aturday night meal. Setting is fantastic. From there it went sadly downhill. Service was very slow, plus we were depositied in a lousy room (presumably as we had young children). After lengthy waits the orders arrived all wrong, plus my wife's lamb was nothing short of raw. This place needs a new chef and fewer customers or more staff! Very disappointing.

Went here recently and was impressed with both the food and the location - stunning location, the service was excellent and the staff were friendly, although it was not busy. Will go back again soon.

Tuesday 30th March 2010. We visited the Mill for lunch and ate from the A La Carte menu and the service and food were very good. We had table service for drinks and did not have to order drinks from the bar. The Mill has various seating areas with feature real log fires. The pub has recently been refurbished and it all looks very good including the toilets. There are baby changing facilties.
Having read the blogs from March which related to Sunday bookings we were a little apprehensive about going, but we all had a lovely relaxing time and the food arrived in good time. Due to the location of the pub, on a sunny Sunday it probably does attract a lot customers which puts pressure on the kitchen and hence why some previous customers have not had such a great experience on a Sunday.
We have booked to go again and look forward to our next visit.

Just took the family to this pub after seeing "Approved" badge by their on your site. I will not be relying on your approval status for any more pub explorations.
The pub is in delightful settings and the interior is pleasant.
The service was laughable and reminded us of an episode from Faulty Towers. as at least on 4 occasions during our meal, paltes, bowls, coffees etc.. were dropped around us.
The food was what would be expected from a low budget pub.
My children had burgers nand these were adequate if a little underwhelming, my wife and had had the Guiness pie and fish. Both dishes were overcooked, dry, tasteless and poorly presented, we both left our food as it was unpleasant to eat.
It took 2 hours to get 2 courses, on 2 occasions our drinks were forgotten about.
Great location, very poor cooking and poor management.

The Mill at Elstead is the most over rated pub in the area and thrives on its no doubted beautiful setting. Since I moved into the area the standards have slowly slipped with boring menus, lackluster service etc. We went with some friends one evening and starters and main courses arrived cold and at the same time. Oh, and forget about getting drinks served to your table during your meal - thats your responsibility apparently. Also the dining area appears to have a dual function as a childrens playground with unchecked out of control kids running through the corridors every time I have been there recetly. I

complained to the Fullers area manager who promised to look into things - he never came back and neither will we!

A very nice pub indeed! Went there today for some food and a drink and was very happy with everything.

Very friendly staff, good beers and really nice food. The service was good and the whole pub is nice and cosy. Gorgeous location too.

Will certainly come back
