We have been using the Brushmakers Arms for a number of years and have brought friends and family who have all really enjoyed this very laid back village pub. The selection of homemade soups is always great as they always seem to be a bit different. The locals at first seem to be a bit stand offish but this is not the case and it is very easy to get into a conversation especially if it is about rugby. Well done to Keith and his staff and long may it continue!

Following a lovely walk in around the countryside, we arrived at the Brushmakers to a warm welcome, good pub food and quick service. The menu is extensive, if not too extensive, although the meals we had were just what we needed, and the Upham ale went down well too!

Gone downhill and I shan't be back.
ok we may have hit it on a bad night, and must say the gammon was lovely but...my meal was a joke ! "crispy duck with mango" aka "yesterdays cooked, chewy, deep fried duck on some salad from a bag" - no mango which they didn't tell us until we waited 40 mins for the food (no other people there when we ordered).
Puddings looked lovely too but i didn't get to taste one as after waiting 10 mins for the table to be cleared we had just been ignored (chefs doing the waitress job) so we paid and left.
Head to the Hampshire Bowman !

17 Winchester ramblers pre-ordered their food at 10.30 am and arrived back at the pub at 12.30. Our food was on the table by the time we had purchased our drinks and ALL agreed that the lunch was excellent, as was the friendly staff and service. No problems arriving with a large group although probably courteous to give the pub as much notice as possible! Would certainly recommend it to other walkers.

I with 13 walkers visited this pub on 7/3/09 at lunchtime. We advised the staff @ 11am that we would be doing so. I have never in over 50 years of walking had such a rude and insolent welcome. Whilst being served, the bar lady appologised to regulars for keeping them waiting as she had to serve these bloody walkers. The bar lady later stood over a lady in the group and remonstrated with her that we had under paid. She then complained when the lady stood up. When we complained that we were still waiting for a sandwich after 50 mins, we were told that it had been served and we were to find it. We were invited to make up thye alledge shortfall in payment by leaving an extra tip!. Walkers avoid this pub, you will not be welcome.
