Good Pub Guide Recommended

Enjoyably civilised pub with appealing ancient interior, good carefully sourced food, and a great range of drinks including five real ales; terrace The charming licensees are almost always on hand to give personal attention and you can see this reflected in the general high standards and warmth at this delightful 17th-c place. Over the last year, readers have really enjoyed their kind welcome, well kept beer and delicious food (most people come to dine so booking is advised). The attractive interior (full of signs of the building's venerable age) is divided into five comfortable areas, each with its own character, from the cosy terracotta-painted bar to a light and airy gallery room with its antique wood panelling, solid oak floor and contemporary Lloyd Loom chairs. Flagstone floors, stripped or well polished antique or period-style furniture, and three good fires (one in an inglenook), add warmth and cosiness. Hobsons, Purity Pure Gold and UBU, two or three guests such as Greene King Old Speckled Hen and Purity Mad Goose are on handpump, and they've a dozen or so wines including champagne and local ones by the glass; piped music. In summer, the creeper-covered exterior is hung with lots of colourful baskets, and there are tables and chairs on a vine-covered dining terrace. This riverside village has an appealing church and pretty thatched black and white cottages.

Good Pub Guide Food

If you turn to the back of the menu you will see a list of the local food suppliers they use here – the licensees put a lot of effort into sourcing good produce. The menu includes a good choice of sandwiches, fried brie with ginger and apricot compote, crispy whitebait, ploughman's, faggots with sage and onion gravy, smoked salmon and crayfish tail salad, and sirloin steak. Daily specials might take in sardines in tempura batter on oriental and ginger salad, lamb burger on toasted focaccia with cucumber salad and mint and ginger yoghurt, cajun sweet potato and red pepper curry, and roast salmon on paella-style rice with chorizo; popular Sunday roast, fish and chips night Tuesday and Spice Night Friday.

On a chance visit to The Bell a few years ago, I now visit regularly. The food is always excellent and the chef caters for individual requirements. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. This pub can cater equally well for small or large bookings and always gives the same good service.

I had an evening meal here with my parents. I thought it would be great based on the reviews. We were disappointed. The service was good from the male waiter but the female (owner?) was poor. The soup was plentiful but bitter. The fish deal was good value. The haddock was better than the hake which a had an aroma of ammonia. I enjoyed my pork casserole which I recommend. We were overcharged for our wine which was corrected. The pint of lime and soda cost £1.85! I hope they read this and lower the price. Overall I was disappointed. It was not as special as I was lead to believe.

First tried the Bell as a result of its being dining pub of the year in the GPG. Have been back a number of times since and the food has been consistently outstanding. The service is fabulous and the prices for such a quality experience are really very reasonable indeed. The licensee and his staff truly care about their customers - it's so refreshing to go to a pub run by experienced professionals rather than kids. Highly recommended - go there before everyone finds out!

We were on a week's narrow-boating holiday going down the River Avon and luckily discovered the Bell Inn one evening. We were looking for a good drink and a good meal after a hard day's work and we certainly found them at the Bell. Drinks-wise, there was an excellent selection of real ales and wines. Food-wise, the starters and main courses we had were both delicious. No room for dessert. The waiters/waitresses were outstandingly professional, knowledgeable and friendly without exception. We were so bowled over by the Bell experience, that we stopped off there again on the way back up the River Avon and experienced exactly the same all over again. Perfecto!

Visited for the first time on Fri on our way to Hereford. So good we came back the same way just to go there again.Really friendly staff & excellent food if not cheap. A good choice on both the main & specials menu from hot sandwiches thru' local sausage & mash/ fish n chips to speciality fish dishes & more. Two or three real ales & Thatchers cider on draught.
Certainly living up to their reputation as the Warwickshire dining pub of the year.
highly recommended.
