Scott Arms, Dorset
Last weekend I was lucky enough to take a vacation in the beautiful coastal town of Dorset, and in true BitterSweet Partnership fashion, I used this weekend to sample the local pubs. Dorset has several picturesque pubs, but my favourite discovery of the weekend was The Scott Arms located on Kingston Hill.
Set on a hilltop with views of Corfe Castle and the Dorset countryside The Scott Arms has a truly magnificent outlook. The pub itself is also a spectacle with thick and impenetrable Virginia creeper covering the exterior, and an airy modern interior which is split over two levels with high ceilings, whitewashed stone walls, polished pine, and snug brown leather sofas.
In the summer this pub comes to life with live acoustic music and a Jamaican BBQ shack in the garden. The food from the shack is exotic and delicious; serving freshly cooked traditional Jamaican dishes, such as jerk chicken, curry goat, rice and peas, and callaloo.
The Scott Arms has a welcoming and friendly environment and the staff have an impressive knowledge of the beers on offer. This is important for a pub like The Scott Arms where they stock a range of local brews from Dorset, Cornwall, and Hampshire, as well as guest ales from further afield.
The Scott Arms is a great place to bring friends and family. The breathtaking location provides reason alone to visit this pub. I would have to agree with the website that The Scott Arms is a ‘pub that remembers that it's a decent pint of real ale (locally-brewed or 'guest')... that keeps its discerning customers happy.’
