Pub review: The Vine, Kentish Town

As part of our work for BitterSweet Partnership, which aims to improve beer’s reputation with women, we’ve been visiting pubs to review them – we want to look at the entire drinking experience as it’s all important, from the glassware to the atmosphere. This is what Kate thought of The Vine in North London:

‘The Vine in Kentish Town calls itself a ‘Pub and Italian Kitchen’ – so, you can tell from the outset that this isn’t the most traditional of pubs. First impressions of the decor confirm this – ostrich leather sofas and pictures of rock stars on the walls on the ground floor give the place a trendy look. However, the friendliness of the staff meant that the atmosphere was welcoming.

‘One of the high points about this pub is a proper beer menu next to the wine list, which makes it easy for you to see what’s on offer as well as comparing prices and ABVs. It’s such a simple idea but one that rarely appears in pubs!

‘I’d say from my impressions that the Vine is at its best in summer, as not only do they have lots of benches at the front, but also an attractive sheltered garden at the back. Having done my research about it online, it’s also used as a party and wedding venue – the back garden is certainly attractive enough for it. We sat inside mostly because it was so quiet indoors that it was easy to grab a comfy seat.

‘I’d recommend this pub as a great stop-off on a summery day after visiting Hampstead Heath or Parliament Hill Lido – I’m looking forward to going back and trying the food!’
