Pub Review: The Crown and Two Chairmen, London

In a busy city where work is the main ethos, having a relaxing retreat to visit is key. Most London pubs are really more like bars, serving cocktails and olives, rather than an interesting range of ales. The Crown and Two Chairmen on the other hand is a city pub that prides itself on its selection of beer.

The Crown and Two Chairmen can be found on Dean Street, situated half way between Old Compton Street and Oxford Street. The pub is split over two floors, with the downstairs proving popular with those who want a quick pint. The upstairs in contrast is a hidden gem that takes you away from the crazy streets of London’s West End. It becomes a lunch lounge during the week where customers can relax and enjoy their pints with one of the delicious meals on offer. There is a vast selection of choice on the menu, offering everything from homemade burgers, to traditional pub dishes like pork sausages with sage mash and balsamic onion gravy. They even have quirky sharing platters of mini beef burgers, mini lamb burgers, humus, crudités, and calamari.

One of my favourite things about this pub is its celebration of beer. Whilst most pubs, particularly in London, highlight their extensive wine lists, The Crown and Two Chairmen boasts a large beer menu, advising customers of the many different tasty beers available - no fewer than 19, sourced from all over the world. The ales range from light beers such as Frulli (strawberry beer) to heavier tastes like Hoegardeen, Leffe, Erdinger. There is also an array of bottle beers such as Vedett, Meantime (chocolate beer), Timmermans (peache beer) and Kriek (Cherry beer).

The Crown and Two Chairman is worth visiting, whether you are looking for a quiet escape from the busy streets of the capital, good food to refuel on before hitting the shops of Oxford Street, or if you are just looking for that perfect pint.
