Pub Review - Old Crown Inn, Ashton, Northamptonshire

English village pub, The Old Crown Inn, is an early 16th century half-timbered pub that is located in the heart of the village of Ashton in Northamptonshire. It retains much of its original pub charm with heavy oak beams and an inglenook fireplace, making it a great place for women who enjoy drinking beer in a traditional setting. The bar is well worn and atmospheric, while the restaurant is simply furnished with dark wooden furniture and creamy walls. There is also a pleasant beer garden for outdoor dining in good weather.

The real charm about this pub is the selection of real ales that they have on offer. The pub is brewery owned, with a great selection of beers on tap - everything from amber bitters to citrus hops- it will leave you spoilt for choice. It is particularly good for women who want to try beer for the first time as the friendly landlord is on hand to offer advice on the beers. At BitterSweet Partnership we love a pub that celebrates the excellence of beer; The Old Crown Inn has a range of beers from Eagle to Kronenbourg 1664, making it the perfect environment for beer drinkers.

The Old Crown Inn also has a wide selection of food on offer - from bar bites to main meals - it is all homemade and delicious! Enjoyable bar food includes; sandwiches, soups, and chips with dips. Whilst, the restaurant menu emphasises this pub’s “Best of British” approach, with starters like Cornish smoked mackerel or baked camembert, and mains such as the popular twice cooked pig’s cheeks with parsnip mash, or smoked haddock and salmon fishcakes with chips & tartar sauce.

If you are visiting Northamptonshire or the quaint canal-side village of Stoke Bruerne, I’d recommend The Old Crown Inn as a great stop-off on a cold winter’s evening. It’s just two miles away, with warming log fires and the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing pint.
