Charity Starts at Home
We thought for some time that it would be more constructive to focus our charitable support on one cause, rather than offer little dribs and drabs of help to all sorts of causes as and when we were asked.
We’ve worked with our chosen charity Kivuli Trust for two years. Their passion for making a real difference to people’s lives is something we admire and they work tirelessly to support disabled children in East Africa and ensure they have access to what we take for granted: education, food and drink in a safe, nurturing environment. What’s more, they appealed to us as they are a small charity with no head office costs, so our financial help goes directly to funding the running of Kivuli House, a home in Kenya for 32 children.
Kivuli are currently fund-raising to double the size of the house, and to raise money, we recently ran our first ever alfresco pub quiz, in the main garden of The Avalon in Clapham. It was a great success, with people paying £15 a head, for delicious mezze, followed by roast suckling pig, from our very own farm, before answering a few, fun general knowledge questions.
We were thrilled to raise £2500 and so are having a second al fresco quiz on September 15th. If it's similarly successful, our customers will have made a big contribution to ensuring the expansion of Kivuli House, which would be simply brilliant. Giving has never felt so good!
If you want to come along to the next pub quiz on September 15th, email Georgie Harding-Newman on gscpope@yahoo.co.uk
