Women and Pubs: One year on
As I mentioned in my last post, BitterSweet Partnership is now a year old. As part of our work in getting women to reappraise beer as an acceptable drink choice (as only 13% of beer serves are currently attributed to women), we’ve been listening to women to find out what they currently think of it. In our recent survey, we found that:
• Almost 8 out of 10 women (79%) say they seldom or never drink beer
• 15% of women admit their drinking choice on a night out is influenced by their friends
• 13% of women feel beer isn’t a drink they can enjoy with their girlfriends because it can’t be shared
• The way a drink is served is a key factor influencing women’s choice – 16% of women state this to be one of their main reasons for choosing a drink
• 90% of women change their drink choice depending on the situation they’re in
Our findings have told us that women’s relationship with beer is all about experience – and by changing that experience, pubs stand to increase their sales of beer to women. By changing the serve and introducing better glassware, or by creating a sharing experience with beer, or by making your pub a comfortable situation for women to drink beer in, you can help grow the market for beer in your pub.
If you’re female, do you currently drink beer on a regular basis? If not, why not?
