Pub review: Cromwell Cottage, Kislingbury, Northamptonshire
As those who’ve read this blog before will know, I work for BitterSweet Partnership, which works to tackle beer’s reputation with women. We’ve spoken to thousands of women to see what they think, and from that, we know that the entire drinking experience is really important. This is why the BitterSweet team have been visiting pubs to review for this blog – this is what Carli thought of Cromwell Cottage in Northamptonshire:
‘I have certainly been making the most of the long summer nights by catching up with friends over a beer. Recently we caught up for drinks and some food at ‘The Cromwell Cottage’ in Northamptonshire. A traditional village pub set in the small village of Kislingbury, four miles west of Northampton. The Cromwell Cottage has a quaint exterior surrounded by trees and located next to the river Nene, which makes this pub so tranquil that it is a great place to relax in of an evening.
‘And what’s even better is that The Cromwell Cottage stocks a large selection of real ales. They have several local brews and also a great range of guest ales. The ales are great but with the summer in full swing what really draws us into The Cromwell Cottage is the summer tipples.
‘It’s not just the drinks that attract us to this pub; the food is traditional at its best. They offer a seasonal menu that is full of tasty choice. The sharing platters are perfect when you want a light bite to enjoy with friends. The fish mezze is simple yet delicious with all the tastes from the Mediterranean. I had the grilled portabella mushrooms, topped with crisp bacon, garlic and chilli oil, the mushrooms were beautifully flavourful and there was just the right amount. For my main course I had chicken marinated with a sticky lemon, honey & chilli sauce, served with chips and rocket salad. The chicken was so delicious that I didn’t want it to end. What’s more the food is all reasonably priced and they even offer the option of a fixed price menu.
‘The Cromwell Cottage is described as ‘a traditional village pub with great food, real ale and a warm atmosphere’. I would have to agree that this pub is definitely the place to go to for socialising with good friends, good food and good beer.’
