Debunking the Calorie Myth
At BitterSweet we want women to enjoy the Pub going experience, and as I discussed in my post last week, we think that the lack of information available on Beer has effected many women’s experiences.
So in order to get to the heart of why women shy away from beer, we asked them why it is so many choose Wine or Spirits over Beer. We were surprised to learn that almost half of women in the UK (45%) believe that drinking beer would lead to weight gain.
As Carol McGiffin, TV broadcaster and presenter and member of BitterSweet’s ‘Love Beer Panel ‘, said “Women just see beer guts and don’t want to end up with one so avoid beer”. When in reality, swapping a glass of wine for a bottle of beer is a more sensible, low calorie option. In fact did you know that a single gin and tonic (177ml) has 143 calories, a small glass of white wine (148ml) has 120 calories, compared to ½ pint of beer (236ml) which has 102 calories!
Do you think that you would be more likely to pick beer next time you are down at the pub knowing that it’s a low calorie alcohol option?
