Avoiding the World Cup

If you’ve read this blog before, you might remember that I work for BitterSweet Partnership, the business set up by Molson Coors which aims to get more women to enjoy beer. With the World Cup dominating the TV schedules, we’ve been thinking about how this might affect women’s pub-going – and while we know that many women enjoy watching football, we also know that there are some who’d rather avoid it entirely.

With this in mind, I thought I’d post some ideas about how those who aren’t as interested in the World Cup can still enjoy going to the pub this June and July:

· Research your timings: FIFA have a list on their website of all matches, including times – so you can plan ahead for which times and days are best to arrange to meet friends (and don’t forget the match times are South African and we’re an hour ahead!!)

· Plan your place: If you’re London-based, Fancy a Pint? has a short list of pubs which aren’t showing the football – there’s not a nation-wide list as yet.

· There’s an app for that: There’s a new (and free!) iPhone app which promises to help you find the nearest pub showing the match – what’s to stop you from using it creatively to find out which pubs to avoid? There’s more information about it on TechRadar.

Will you be watching the World Cup in the pub this summer, or will you be avoiding it entirely?
