Jay Smith is the owner of two of Yorkshire’s most successful independent bars, Montey’s in York and Harrogate. He has experienced the highs and lows of the industry at first hand. Ten years ago he lost his house, his car and very nearly his business when his first bar failed to break even. But through sheer blood, sweat and toil he turned things around to make his name and fortune in the industry. Now, he wants to lead a revival of the Great British boozer, starting in five communities, one small pub at a time.
